Welcome to my website. I have made this to tell my experiences with my sport, volleyball.
My volleyball story
In grade 6 I had my heart and soul in soccer and when my mom forced me to join the volleyball team, I was not impressed. I started off pretty bad, probably one of the worst on the team. My older sister could see I was struggling, and she played volleyball herself, so she decided that summer she would make me a 'bootcamp' where I would play everyday with her, and if I did something wrong I would have a punishment. If it weren't for that bootcamp I don't know if I would be sitting here making my website right now. After my summer long bootcamp, I came back the only grade 7 who could overhand serve, pass to a target, and set without double hitting the ball. I continued to play, get better and love the sport more every time I played. In grade 8 I won the Volleyball MVP award and Most Inspirational Player award for my school, that year I also won the Most Inspirational Player award for my first 14u A club volleyball team. This was all just the beginning of my wonderful experience with a sport that helped shape my life. Of course I played other sports on the side such as soccer, basketball and badminton, which helped me to win the Junior Athlete of the Year award in 2013. In my senior year of volleyball I was named captain of my school team, who placed 7th at provincials. By the end of the school season I was talking to a college volleyball team in North Bay, ON (a long way away from Prince George), they were very interested but the whole idea was a little scary. I thought I would be heading to Ontario until a Jordan Drezet, a friend through volleyball, mentioned that Lakeland College was rebuilding and I should take a look. The coach and I ended up talking and he invited me for a visit, which went very well clearly. Lakeland is a great hometown environment with great supportive girls to accompany me. I am so excited and happy to have picked the team with such an outstanding quality of girls, coaches and overall community. I will keep you updated on my journey as I head out to my new team and home, and I hope to share my insight and experiences!
It has taken many hours in the gym getting reps and working out with my trainers to get me where I am today. I have received so much training, knowledge and effort from the Canadian Sport School of Northern BC. This program is designed for elite athletes to balance school and sports everyday so we can get the training we need while getting the education we need. I attend the Sport School for half of my school day from Monday-Thursday, I have learned so much and watched myself improve with weightlifting, agility and also endurance. I am so grateful for all the effort my trainers Keith and Jordan have put into me, they have taught me how to push myself even when I feel I can't. Mr. Lewis, our classroom teacher, always knows how to get the class motivated, whether its an inspirational speech or a lecture to get us going, between the accomplished students and the hard but helpful trainers and teacher, I have become a better athlete and believe they all are what pushed me to go for my dream of playing post-secondary volleyball. I am so lucky to have spent a wonderful year at Sport School and to have learned, and improved while being there. I have also received extensive training and extra time in the gym with my 18u club volleyball coach, Kim Forrest. All of the factors have added up to me improving as a player and overall athlete, which has brought me to where I am today.
